On that note, there's a new truck gearing up to hit the road in Burlington this summer and it's got a couple of foodie notables behind the wheel.
Pioneer Food Truck & Catering Co. chef-owner Jean-Luc Matecat recently wrapped up two years in the kitchen at ArtsRiot. His past includes time at the Inn at Weathersfield, Pistou and other well-respected locales. Lindsay Taylor, his partner in life and business, will oversee the service operations. She has served at Misery Loves Co. and Dedalus Wine Shop, Market & Wine Bar, among others, and is currently at Butch + Babe's.

At the time, owners Andrew Sepic and Nicole Grinstead were seeking an indoor Essex location to inhabit for the winter but hadn't yet found one. Now, they have. Their new temporary spot is in "literally the closest building to our old location," Sepic said.
The "big, white building" at 9 Main Street, as Sepic described it, used to house a law office. Now, the second floor holds artists' studios and Nomad's brewing equipment. There, visitors can get all of the usual Nomad espresso drinks and Sweet Simone's pastries. The only difference, Sepic explained, is that they don't serve smoothies.
Asked to describe the new locale, he chuckled. "It comes with a modern, minimalist setting right now," he said. "There are plastic folding chairs around a table made of old doors. There are mandalas painted on the carpet to warm the space up a bit."
Photos on Nomad's Instagram show a clean, spare space decorated with tree branches and Christmas lights.
How are things going at the mountain? Sepic noted that the cold weather made for a quiet holiday weekend, but said that, overall, the response to the coffee pop-up has been positive.
"It hasn't been an onslaught, but we've had some really good business days," he said. "Overall, I'm pretty optimistic that it will work out well."

Jars of meat and poultry broth that were infused with CBD, a chemical compound found in cannabis, have been voluntarily recalled by the Simmering Bone, the company that made them, according to the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets.
Four jars of broth were sold at the Vermont Hemp Fest in Burke on September 9, according to Rachel Collier, who made the broth and owns the Simmering Bone. About 50 additional jars were never put on store shelves or sold, she told Seven Days.

Stowe Cider purchased the building this summer. With financing through Union Bank of Vermont & New Hampshire and the Vermont Economic Development Authority, the company began construction on the 6,000-square-foot space in May. The move follows the cidery's growth into a new tasting room at 1799 Mountain Road last summer.

As of this evening, the good people of Vergennes have another place to tip back a drink. Shacksbury Cider opened its tasting room at 11 Main Street at 4 p.m. The company produces old-world-style and experimental ciders from heirloom and foraged apples collected throughout the Champlain Valley.
The spartan but comfortable space is located at the north end of the former Kennedy Brothers building, which Shacksbury uses to house many of its small-batch operations.

While CBD has stirred no small amount of controversy (much as growing hemp for industrial use did in the past), studies have shown that the chemical may be effective in treating everything from pain and inflammation to anxiety, stress, epilepsy, auto-immune disorders and even cancer. Yes, cancer.
Now, Burlington's Monarch & the Milkweed is selling sweets laced with the stuff. Last night, the popular restaurant and pastry stop announced via Facebook that patrons (ages 18 and over, kids) would be able to purchase "Milkweed" branded truffles containing 20 milligrams of CBD starting at noon today.

Yu is planning to open a year-round dumpling shop at 77 Pearl Street, site of the former Radio Deli. The family is trying to raise money to open the business in about five weeks, her daughter Lisa Li said. They need $20,000 to $30,000 for a hood system and permitting, she said.
"It sounds really expensive, between the different requirements," Li said. "But we're doing our best."
