After mistaking some random bathroom graffiti that read “daddy issues” as a shout-out to a nonexistent, all-female punk group, Nashville’s Emily Maxwell, Jenna Mitchell and Jenna Moynihan decided that there really should be a women-fronted group with that name. Thus their band, Daddy Issues, was born. The trio is part of the current wave of grunge revivalists who mine the ’90s for inspiration. Head-banging riffs, crackling feedback and a snarky, self-deprecating spirit add authenticity to their nostalgic sound. Despite any negative connotations the band’s name might inspire, power, ownership and agency are all that you’ll see and hear from this badass group. Check out Daddy Issues on Monday, October 2, at the Monkey House in Winooski.
