Waking Windows: Dana Murray

Dana Murray is a drummer, percussionist, educator and composer from Omaha, Neb. His new record, Negro Manifesto, is a high-concept, avant-garde exploration of the black experience. Through collaborations with rappers, vocalists, saxophonists and other instrumentalists, he delves into complex issues such as institutional racism, the NFL boycott and the pitfalls of navigating a system that’s stacked against you. From soulful, funked-up rap tracks to meandering, experimental works, his compositions assess the state of race in America through timely, fresh processes. Catch Dana Murray on Saturday, May 5, at Waterworks Food + Drink in Winooski.
