Vaud & the Villains claim to hail from Villainville, USA. But the 19-piece little big band’s roots lie firmly in New Orleans. Aptly self-described as “Americana Noir meets Moulin Rouge,” the band’s theatrical live act is a seedy, sexy and salacious spectacle that harks to the heyday of Crescent City cabaret jazz. On Wednesday, January 20, the Villains play the Higher Ground Showcase Lounge in South Burlington — which, incidentally, marks a homecoming for banjo player and Vermont native Adam Grimes, aka Babyface Mahoney.
