The Temptators, Jessica Rabbit Syndrome, Marco Polio

Rhythm Nation

Transcending the current pop-culture obsession with nostalgia, the Temptators use familiar architecture to create something beyond a regurgitation of sounds we’ve heard a bajillion times. The Rochester, N.Y., rockers employ old-school R&B fundamentals mixed with ’60s garage-rock and early punk influences. The band’s mile-a-minute songwriting relies heavily on the interplay between lead and background vocals. Quirky intonation and spastic lyricism impart a loose, freewheeling feel, despite an obvious cohesive vision. The Temptators play on Saturday, May 13, at the North Country Food Co-op in Plattsburgh, with Lake City punks Comrade Nixon. They also play Sunday, May 14, at Battery Street Jeans in Burlington, with support from locals Jessica Rabbit Syndrome and Marco Polio.
