In life, how does one maintain a balance between holding on to one’s roots and embracing new beginnings? This question drives Yimbégré, a thought-provoking piece by choreographer and dancer Souleymane Badolo. Born in Burkina Faso and based in Brooklyn, Badolo founded the dance troupe Kongo Ba Téria, known for fusing traditional African steps with Western contemporary dance. Joined by fellow dancer Sylvestre Koffitse Akakpo-Adzaku and master drummer Mamoudou Konate, the award-winning Badolo melds athleticism, technique and African history in a striking exploration of past, present and future.
