Delving into the wealth of European religious art created
in the Spanish American colonies, this exhibition at the Middlebury College Museum of Art opens Friday, March 2, with a reception at 4:30 p.m. Organized by New York’s Museum of Biblical Art and Art Services International, the show draws on the collection of the Cisneros Foundation as well as the private collection of its cofounder, Patricia Cisneros. Spanning the late 1600s to the 1820s, the exhibition represents a wide range of
mediums, from painting to furniture to decorative objects. Many of these show how New World resources were commandeered for colonial purposes.
