LA-based singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers’ work evokes dark feelings — yet it somehow feels uplifting. Despite exploring themes of toxic relationships (“Chelsea”) and abstract depictions of domestic violence (“You Missed My Heart”) on her debut album, Stranger in the Alps, the 23-year-old artist sings with emotional fervor and a palpable sense of hope. Not quite rock, not quite country, her work seems to straddle urban and rural aesthetics without being tethered to either. Electronic embellishments add a contemporary vibe to her otherwise classic sound. Bridgers performs on Sunday, February 25, at the Higher Ground Showcase Lounge in South Burlington.
