New York City’s Olden Yolk make music for a simpler time — or perhaps a simpler place. The quartet plays luxuriant, modern folk without the harshness or tension of its home city. Combining atonal textures with soft-rock inclinations, its breezy melodies come to life with jubilant acoustic instrumentals. Despite the group’s relative newness, the interplay and intimacy between vocalists Shane Butler (of Boston’s Quilt) and Caity Shaffer makes their songs feel like the culmination of a lifetime of collaboration. Catch Olden Yolk on Friday, April 27, at the Monkey House in Winooski. Nixon Mask and local singer-songwriter Wren Kitz add support.
