Non-Fiction Comics Festival

When you think about comic books, what comes to mind? Perhaps some iteration of a superhero story — Batman, Superman and the like. But what about stories about actual people, honored in the same style as those men in glossy capes? The annual Non-Fiction Comics Festival at Fletcher Free Library in Burlington salutes illustrators of real life, from history to health care, with special events, panel discussions, workshops and exhibitors. This year, noteworthy names include Eisner Award winner Ben Passmore; Vermont’s own “cottagecore” virtuoso Julianna Brazill (pictured); Marcel the Shell With Shoes On animator Ben Wickey; and Stephen Weiner, a chronicler of the rise of graphic novels.
