Theatergoers of all ages learn the value of teamwork and friendship — and the right of labor to engage in collective bargaining — in Newsies, the newest musical presented by Champlain Valley Union High School’s theater department. With inspiring songs and invigorating dance numbers, talented teen actors bring to life the true story of the newsboys’ strike of 1899. Banding together to demand that the big news moguls of the day pay their young paper hawkers more fairly, these young union organizers were an indelible part of the labor movement at the turn of the century.
