Formed in the wake of the island’s destructive 2010 earthquake, Haitian music collective Lakou Mizik makes music with a mission. Composed of nine members spanning social, religious and geographic backgrounds, the multigenerational ensemble seeks to spread a message of pride, strength and hope to fellow Haitians and listeners around the world. Vodou rhythms, call-and-response vocals, intricate bass lines and socially conscious lyrics combine for an undeniably danceable sound. Concertgoers can’t help but groove as the band performs upbeat numbers from its 2016 album, Wa Di Yo, as part of Summer Free for All, an all-ages events series at Dartmouth College.
