Even though titled “A Picture of Santa Barbara,” this exhibition at the University of Vermont’s Colburn Gallery features no photographs taken in the tony California city. Instead, the UVM visiting artist offers composite analog images captured
in Texas, Maine and Vermont. Most works have an aching crispness to them. Subject matter ranges from intimate portraiture to ruminations on natural and manmade textures
— such as the alien feel of seaweed-covered rocks or the pixelated artificiality of a floral carpet.
