Musically speaking, Infinitus have their cake and eat it, too. The beatboxing string trio subverts traditional genre expectations by infusing classical masterworks and original arrangements and compositions with elements of jazz and hip-hop musical styles. Cellist Alex Cheung, violist Anthony Cheung and violinist John “Adidam” Littlejohn create a unique sound by augmenting their bow-and-string playing with beatboxing — a technique of making percussive sounds with the mouth. In the culmination of a four-day educational residency, the Vancouver-based ensemble gives a unique concert including a live remix of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Double Violin Concerto, as well as a collaborative work with Upper Valley Music Center students.
