Down in the Valley
Fusing dusty Americana twang and sweet folk sensibilities with an affinity for gnarly art-pop and gritty Memphis blues guitar riffage, the music of Echo Park California’s In the Valley Below is an exercise in contrast. They can be tender and sentimental one minute, a roiling storm of fuzz-injected, sexually charged snarl the next. Fun fact: The band brews its own beer, which it plans to sell at some point — presumably if the music thing doesn’t work out. We wouldn’t worry too much about that last part.
