Home Movie Day

Amateur filmmakers, slice-of-life documentarians and those with a big box of family memories on tape sitting in the attic bring their 16mm, 8mm and Super 8 reels to the Vermont History Museum for Home Movie Day. In the morning, museum archivists teach attendees how to preserve and properly file their films, answering any questions they may have. Then the whole crew heads over to the Savoy Theater, where everyone’s home movies are projected on the big screen. Local author and organizer Allen Gilbert also provides commentary on the newly digitized version of The Epic Journey, his filmed documentation of his 1970 cross-country road trip in a Volkswagen bus.
