While some see retirement as an opportunity for rest and relaxation, Hank Kaestner has remained a man on a mission. After more than three decades as a spice buyer for McCormick & Company, the Vermont resident has kept his eyes on the sky as a serious world birder, having successfully identified nearly 7,400 species. In his talk “The Jewels of Ecuador,” the ornithology enthusiast retraces his steps from a 10-day trip over the Andes Mountains, during which he and his brother spotted almost 400 avian varieties, including stunning hummingbirds. Fellow fans of feathered friends flock to the Birds of Vermont Museum for this high-flying presentation.
