Pianist George Winston’s 14th solo album, Spring Carousel, has special significance for the instrumentalist. The American musician wrote the album’s 15 solo compositions while in recovery from a bone marrow transplant for myelodysplastic syndrome. As he healed at the City of Hope comprehensive cancer center in Duarte, Calif., Winston spent his evenings in front of the hospital’s piano, writing songs that would form his 2017 offering. In an effort to give back, Winston is donating proceeds from the sales of the release to City of Hope. The music man strikes a chord with concerts in Burlington and Barre.
