Celebrated for his original style and heartwarming, hairy characters, the Brookfield-based New Yorker cartoonist currently exhibits more sobering works in the Projects Gallery of Rochester’s BigTown Gallery. “Bearing Witness” features a series of the artist’s haunting lithographs contemplating history, demise and extinction. Here, Koren’s scraggly-faced critters are rendered as anguished skeletons roaming about landfills, architectural ruins and the bony graveyards of their kin.
