The genre-bending Montréal duo CO/NTRY used to be called Country, a name its founders intentionally chose to confuse online search robots. The updated spelling/styling doesn’t help that much. When it comes to search engine optimization, it seems Beaver Sheppard and David Whitten just don’t give a f/ck. Self-described as “adult contemporary post-punk,” the duo’s music is reminiscent of early Depeche Mode, Joy Division and Canadian contemporary TR/ST. Be on the lookout for their newest album, Cell Phone 1, in April. Catch CO/NTRY on Wednesday, March 8, at the Monkey House in Winooski.
