Friend Request

In July, indie-music website Stereogum dubbed Partner a “band to watch.” Hailing from New Brunswick, best friends Lucy Niles and Josée Caron make ’90s-inspired, edgy power pop that should appeal to fans of brutally honest, relatable lyrics. Their breakout hit of the summer, “Play the Field,” details the anguish of burgeoning queer sexuality in uncomfortable spaces such as public-school locker rooms (“Trying not to look at you / Cuz even though I’d really like to / It’s not worth being called a dyke”). They unleash their debut album, In Search of Lost Time, in September. Partner open for local indie band Clever Girls on Friday, August 1, at the Monkey House in Winooski. Space Merchants and Sun Voyager also add support.
