Centered on mandolin, fiddle, pedal steel and tight, layered harmonies, Americana six-piece Cabinet are a fairly straight-ahead group in a crowded stylistic space. So you might wonder what makes the Scranton, Pa., band stand out. Mainly, it’s that the group writes excellent songs. And even though their music stays mostly tethered to a familiar, rootsy sound, the fellas dabble in dusty blues and hard rock and even pepper in a few notes of ska.
