“What can one do with them?” asks the character Claire during a discussion of men in the opening scene of Boston Marriage. “Just the One Thing,” replies her companion, Anna. As this exchange suggests, women are at the center of this comedy, written by David Mamet and set in Victorian-era Boston. Mary Scripps of Charlotte and Montpelier’s Roberta Harold portray the two main characters, who share a home as well as plenty of fast-paced banter, double entendre and vernacular expressions. Bob Carmody directs Marabo Productions’ interpretation of this sidesplitting story of love, scandal, seduction and a comically mistreated maid.
