Discussing the inspiration for “Throwaways,” the lead song from Beach Slang’s debut album The Things We Do to Find the People Who Feel Like Us, front man James Alex offers some advice. “Look, growing up and getting serious is wildly overrated stuff,” he says. “Don’t listen to it. Jump around with a guitar. Play records loud.” In other words: Life is short, have fun. Incidentally, the Philly band’s record is ideal for doing just that. It’s a fist-pumping blend of anthemic punk and melodic power pop, explicitly meant to played at high volume. Beach Slang play this Thursday, July 7, at the Higher Ground Showcase Lounge in South Burlington with Ron Gallo and Potty Mouth.
