The true name of God is often discussed among religious scholars. Yahweh, Jehova, Adonai — various cultures and denominations give the unknowable Almighty their own reverent titles. LA-based electro-pop mystery woman Elohim plays with this concept by never fully revealing her face, her birth name or, sometimes, her real voice. In phone interviews, she frequently employs text-to-speech technology. Though she remains shrouded in mystery, her music is fully accessible with deep, overdriven club synths, trap beats and radio-ready hooks. Elohim opens for Alison Wonderland on Sunday, September 17, at the Higher Ground Ballroom in South Burlington.
