In the 1970s, folk singer Utah Phillips made his home in a Vermont Railroad flanger in a field across from the barn that housed Philo Records. Nine years after Phillips’ death, the car remains on the North Ferrisburgh property, which is now privately owned. These days, Duncan Phillips, the folkster’s son, is leading an effort to restore the railroad car in all its residential glory and ship it to the Black Butte Center for Railroad Culture in Weed, Calif. Vermont musicians Paul Asbell, Jon Gailmor (pictured), Rik Palieri and others lend their talents to a concert benefiting the project.
