'1968: The Whole World Is Watching'

History seems to happen in waves: Social frictions both global and minute accumulate and gain momentum until a dramatic crash grabs the world’s attention. The year of 1968 marked one such series of events; this exhibition at the Middlebury College Museum of Art uses art and archival materials to illustrate its tremendous upheavals, from the assassination of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. to the violence at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago to sea changes in the definitions of art. Curated by Middlebury students Maddie Hampton and Sophie Taylor, the exhibition also offers a glimpse into how the rural Vermont campus was impacted by global events.
