Hey, dudes. I have to admit that I possibly drank too much coffee before writing this post. I'm trying to sit here and write about my personal must-see bands appearing at Waking Windows in Winooski this weekend, but it's taking forever. Each time I listen to a band in the line-up, I literally get out of my chair and start dancing like the woodland montage in Hot Rod.

The two are high-functioning mitochondria in the cell of Burlington music and social action groups, Pushing A Brain Uphill and Babe Paradise. Hello again, humans. I am a little teary-eyed this week over the closing of Church Street's Halflounge Speakeasy. The tiny bar was a hidden cove for local misfits for nearly a decade. Each summer weekend the place was packed from the blue-and-pink lit basement to the front patio. I'm stuck in my feelings for that little dance floor, so I'm going to unload some of my favorite memories of the place. If you aren't a nostalgic baby-blanket like myself, skip a couple paragraphs to read into the future of Vermont reggae, okay?

'Bacon Street,' Son of Salami

Hello, my freaks and geeks. I've got a rare relic to share with you today! If you are familiar with Burlington's musical hypogeum, you're probably aware of the elusive artist known as Joey Pizza Slice. Sir Slice has been producing under the nom de plume Son of Salami for many years now. His underground classic, A Study In Eraser Headless Tape Recording, is a phenomenal work of lo-fi pop utilizing a unique technique of recording songs with a tape recorder that has had the eraser head removed. This method allows him to record infinite layers of sound on one cassette tape. But he is unable to hear or erase what he is recording over, a difficult undertaking even for the most talented individuals.
